Gabapentin has been licensed to treat partial seizures in people with epilepsy as well as nerve pain following a shingles infection (postherpetic neuralgia). The drug is believed to work, in part, by affecting calcium channels in the brain. It comes in tablet, capsule, and liquid form, and is typically taken one to three times a day. Possible side effects of gabapentin include coordination problems, dizziness, and drowsiness.
