Lidoderm Patches Used for Arthritis Pain

The Lidoderm® patch (lidocaine patch) is a prescribed skin patch licensed for treating a specific type of pain that can occur after a case of shingles (this pain is known medically as postherpetic neuralgia).
However, on occasion, a healthcare provider may prescribe medications for other, unapproved uses ("off-label" uses). Some possible off-label uses of Lidoderm may include treating other types of pain, such as arthritis. Using Lidoderm patches for arthritis pain may be effective because this medication works by inhibiting the nerve impulses that pass along pain signals to the brain.
