Shingles Home > Famcyclovir

Were you looking for information about Famciclovir? Famcyclovir is a common misspelling of famciclovir.

Famciclovir (Famvir®) is an antiviral medication that is used for the treatment of genital herpes, cold sores, and shingles. By preventing viruses from multiplying, the medicine can help improve symptoms and prevent recurring outbreaks. Famciclovir, which is available by prescription, comes in tablet form and is taken for just one day, for a week, or every day (depending on the condition being treated).

Side effects of famciclovir can include fatigue, vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches. Among the conditions that you should tell your healthcare provider about prior to taking famciclovir are kidney disease, very severe lactose intolerance, and galactose intolerance.

(Click Famciclovir for more information on how famciclovir is used to treat each of the conditions listed above, suggestions on when and how to use the medication, and a list of the various strengths of famciclovir that are available.)
