It is also approved to prevent recurrent genital herpes outbreaks and the spread of herpes to sexual partners. Valacyclovir is an antiviral medication that helps the body fight these various infections by preventing the virus from multiplying. The medication comes in caplet form and is usually taken one, two, or three times a day (depending on the condition being treated).
