Zostavax® is a single-dose vaccine that is commonly given to people 60 years old and older to prevent shingles. It is a live but weakened version of the varicella-zoster virus. Zostavax causes the body to produce an immune system response to the virus, which helps prevent shingles. Potential side effects of Zostavax include injection site reactions and headaches.
